Privacy Policy — SimDrive

Last updated: 7 September 2026

SimDrive is a file sync application published by Simson Softwares Private Limited. It keeps a folder on your computer and a folder on your own cloud storage in step with each other — OneDrive, any S3-compatible store, or an ordinary directory such as a network share or an external disk.

The short version: SimDrive has no backend. Your files go from your computer to storage you already own and nowhere else. We operate no servers that your files pass through, we run no accounts, and we cannot see your files, your folder names or your credentials — not because we promise not to look, but because they never reach us.

1. What is stored, and where

Everything SimDrive keeps stays on your computer:

  • Your files. In the folders you chose. SimDrive does not copy them anywhere except the storage you paired them with.
  • An index. A local database recording each synced file's path, size, modification time and a content fingerprint, so a later sync can tell what changed without re-reading everything. It holds no file contents.
  • Sign-in tokens. If you connect OneDrive or Google Drive, the token that lets SimDrive act on your behalf is written to your user's application-state directory with owner-only permissions. It is never transmitted to us.
  • Your configuration. Which folders are paired with which destinations, and settings such as transfer limits. It contains no credentials, by design.

2. What leaves your device

Three kinds of traffic, and only the last of them reaches Simson Softwares:

  • Your storage provider. SimDrive talks directly to Microsoft Graph or to your S3 endpoint, using the account you signed in with. That account is yours; Microsoft and your storage provider are your providers under your own agreements with them, not our sub-processors. Your files go from your disk to your provider and never pass through us.
  • Microsoft's sign-in pages, during the one-off sign-in, so you can approve access. We never see what you type there.
  • Simson Softwares, for registration and for a message at most once a day saying the installation is still in use. Section 3 lists exactly what those two messages contain.

SimDrive's own interface runs on your machine and is reachable only from it: the application listens on the loopback address, refuses to start on any other, and requires a token stored in your user directory. Nothing on your network or on the internet can reach it.

3. What we collect

SimDrive is free of charge. What we ask in return is knowing roughly who runs it and where. We confirm the address by emailing you a six-digit code and asking you to type it back — that is the only check there is, and nothing is sold at any point. This is the complete list of what we hold about you:

  • Your name and email address, as you typed them when you registered.
  • Your country and city, worked out from the internet address your registration arrived from.
  • An installation identifier — a random value created on your machine. It identifies the installation, not you.
  • The version, operating system and processor type SimDrive is running on.
  • The date SimDrive last ran, from a message it sends at most once a day saying only that it is still in use.

Until you type back the code, nothing is confirmed and no daily message is ever sent. A registration that is never confirmed simply sits unused and can be deleted on request like any other.

We do not keep your IP address. It is used to work out the country and city and is then discarded — it is never written to our database. Once we know the city we have no use for the address, and the safest place for data nobody needs is nowhere.

Nothing about your files ever leaves your machine. Not a file name, not a folder name, not a path, not a size, not a count, not a hash, not the name of your bucket or provider, and none of your storage credentials. This is not a matter of us remembering to leave them out: the messages SimDrive sends have no field capable of carrying them, and a test in the source refuses to let one be added without this page being changed too.

There is no analytics service, no advertising identifier, no crash reporting and no third-party SDK of any kind. The only server SimDrive ever contacts, other than the storage provider you chose, is ours — and only for the two messages described above.

Registration never gates your backup. The key we issue is a courtesy for support; SimDrive does not check it again. If our server is unreachable, or you never register, your files still sync. A backup tool that stops working because a licence server is down has failed at the only job it had.

Our lawful basis for holding this is our legitimate interest in knowing who uses software we give away, and in being able to reach you about security issues in it. You can object to that at any time by asking us to delete your record; see Deletions below.

4. Permissions we ask for, and why

  • Files.ReadWrite.All (OneDrive) and the equivalent Drive scope. A sync tool has to read what is already there and write what has changed, in whichever folder you pair. Narrower scopes exist but cover only files the application itself created, which would make SimDrive unable to see the folder it is meant to be syncing.
  • offline_access. So sync continues on a schedule without asking you to sign in again each time.
  • Access to the folders you choose on your own machine. SimDrive reads and writes only inside the folders you paired.

5. Deletions

Deleting a file in a synced folder deletes it on the other side too — that is what syncing means. SimDrive refuses to do so when an implausible share of your files has disappeared at once, which is what an unmounted drive or a mistaken folder deletion looks like.

To remove your registration: choose Forget my details in SimDrive's settings, which erases them from your machine, or email privacy@simsondesk.com and we will delete your record from our systems. Because we hold only the fields listed in section 3, and no IP address, deleting that record removes everything we know about you. We will confirm when it is done.

6. Children

SimDrive is a tool for managing your own files and is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly register anyone under 16. Registration asks for a name and an email address; if you believe a child has registered, email privacy@simsondesk.com and we will delete the record.

7. Your rights over your data

  • We hold no data about you, so there is nothing for us to export, correct or erase. If you would like that confirmed in writing, ask.
  • To remove everything SimDrive keeps locally, sign out of the connected account in the application, then delete its configuration and application-state directories. Your synced files are yours and are left alone.
  • To revoke the application's access to a Microsoft account, use My Account → Privacy → Apps and services, or ask your administrator. For Google, use Google Account → Security → Third-party access.
  • Files held in your cloud storage are governed by that provider's terms and your organisation's policies, not by this policy.

8. Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version is published with the release it applies to, and the date above changes.
