The original. Any AWS region; more setup than the others.
Root account keys should never be used by an application. An IAM user with a policy naming one bucket is the right key to hand SimDrive.
A user limited to one bucket cannot list your buckets, so SimDrive asks you to type the name. Add s3:ListAllMyBuckets on arn:aws:s3:::* to the policy if you want the list.
| Region | The region code the bucket was created in, e.g. eu-west-1 |
|---|---|
| Access key ID | From IAM → the user → Security credentials |
| Secret access key | Shown once, at creation |
| Bucket | Typed, when the user's policy names one bucket |
In SimDrive: Settings → Storage → Connect storage → Amazon S3, or the Amazon S3 tile on the Get started screen of a new install. Keys and sign-ins are stored on your machine only and never reach us.
These steps were last walked through in the Amazon S3 console on 2026-09-12. Consoles move their menus; if a name above has changed, the thing to look for is the same. Tell us at support@simsondesk.com and we will update the page.
SimDrive is free, for Windows, Linux and macOS. Install it, connect your storage with the steps above, and choose the folders to back up.
