Connecting SimDrive to

Cloudflare R2

Object storage with no charge for downloads; 10 GB a month is free.

About 10 minutesThe first 10 GB stored each month is free and downloads are never charged. Cloudflare asks for a payment method before R2 can be enabled, even for the free allowance.
1

Create the account and enable R2

  1. Sign up at dash.cloudflare.com and verify the email address.
  2. In the left menu open R2 Object Storage. The first time, Cloudflare asks for a payment method and to accept the R2 terms; nothing is charged inside the free allowance.
2

Find your account id

R2's endpoint is built from your account id rather than a region.

  1. On the R2 overview page, the Account ID is shown on the right, with a copy button. It is also the long hexadecimal segment in the dashboard URL.
  2. Copy it; SimDrive asks for it.
3

Create a bucket

  1. Click Create bucket, give it a name, and leave the location on Automatic.
  2. Click Create bucket.
4

Create an API token

R2 has its own tokens, separate from the account-wide API tokens.

  1. On the R2 overview page, click Manage R2 API Tokens (under the account id), then Create API token.
  2. Name it after the machine.
  3. Permissions: Object Read & Write.
  4. Specify bucket(s): choose the bucket you created, so the token can touch nothing else.
  5. Leave the TTL on Forever unless you want the token to expire.
  6. Click Create API Token. The page shows a Token value, an Access Key ID, a Secret Access Key and the endpoint for S3 clients. SimDrive wants the Access Key ID and the Secret Access Key — not the token value. Copy them now; they are shown once.

A token limited to one bucket cannot list buckets, so SimDrive will ask you to type the bucket name. That is normal.

5

Enter it in SimDrive

  1. Settings → Storage → Connect storage → Cloudflare R2.
  2. Account id: the value from the R2 overview page.
  3. Access Key ID and Secret Access Key: from the token page.
  4. There is no region to choose; SimDrive uses "auto", which is what R2 expects.
  5. Click Connect, then Choose folders to back up.

What to enter in SimDrive

Account idFrom the R2 overview page or the dashboard URL
Access Key IDFrom Manage R2 API Tokens → Create API token
Secret Access KeyShown once, at creation
BucketTyped, when the token is limited to one bucket

In SimDrive: Settings → Storage → Connect storage → Cloudflare R2, or the Cloudflare R2 tile on the Get started screen of a new install. Keys and sign-ins are stored on your machine only and never reach us.

If it goes wrong

The endpoint could not be reached
The account id is wrong or has a character missing. Copy it again from the R2 overview page and use Edit keys in SimDrive.
Access denied on the bucket
The token was created for a different bucket, or with read-only permission. Create a new token with Object Read & Write for this bucket.

These steps were last walked through in the Cloudflare R2 console on 2026-09-12. Consoles move their menus; if a name above has changed, the thing to look for is the same. Tell us at support@simsondesk.com and we will update the page.
